ORTHOTICS

At Coleraine Foot Clinic our aim is to keep you active and pain free so that you can enjoy a dynamic lifestyle.
What are orthotics?

Orthotics are foot supports that are placed into the shoe to correct or improve lower limb function. At Coleraine Foot Clinic we offer bespoke foot supports which are designed to your individual biomechanical requirements and are tailor made specifically for your unique feet.

Why would I need custom made foot supports?

We are all made differently and we have our own unique biomechanical needs. Custom made foot supports are designed to meet your specific requirements and can address your own particular needs. Our aim with custom made foot supports is to provide relief of current discomfort and also to prevent recurrence of any injury or discomfort.

You may need orthotics if you are experiencing the following:
  • Foot pain
  • Heel pain
  • Plantar fasciitis
  • Ankle pain
  • Knee pain
  • Shin splints
  • Lower back pain
  • Morton's Neuroma
  • Metatarsalgia
  • Overpronation (flat feet)
What is biomechanical assessment?

If you are experiencing any of the above symptoms we can help you! At Coleraine Foot Clinic we carry out a full biomechanical assessment to identify the problem. During this assessment we look at the alignment of your foot and ankle, check your gait (how you walk) and, if appropriate, take a Plaster of Paris cast of your feet so that we can prescribe a set of orthotics that are made specifically for you. We will also advise about other treatment options and therapy which may help relieve your symptoms in conjunction with foot supports.

TESTIMONIAL

David visited us complaining of pain in the ball of his foot when he was running. He was a competitive club runner but was finding that his feet were becoming sore during a run which was affecting his finish times and also his enjoyment of the sport. Further gait analysis was carried out at Coleraine Foot Clinic and David was prescribed a set of custom made orthotics. David is now able to compete again in races and has achieved several personal bests since he had his foot supports fitted.

“In June 2016, at the Walled City Marathon, just around mile 16 I started to experience foot pain. By mile 20 it was so bad that I had to stop and not finishing a race is not a good feeling. For the next 21 months I tried to manage this problem with massage, acupuncture, cushioned insoles and a variety of different shoes – all to no avail. In March 2018 I visited Pam at Coleraine Foot Clinic and, on her advice was measured for a pair of custom made orthotic inserts for my shoes. I was told to accustom myself to them with short runs of just a couple of miles, but the pleasure of pain free running meant that the first outing was just a bit further.

Coleraine Foot Clinic were able to diagnose my problem and provide a solution on my first visit and since then, my orthotics have clocked over 3000 pain free miles at a wide variety of distances and are still providing an excellent service – I only wish I’d gone sooner.”
